Police yesterday released documents into the investigation. These show Mr Barclay did not co-operate with police despite earlier saying publicly he would.
Mr Barclay, in a statement, yesterday said it was his ''right'' not to make a statement to police about the allegation.
Mr English, Mr Barclay's predecessor as Clutha-Southland MP, said the employment dispute had been resolved, police had looked into the matter and Mr Barclay had been reselected to stand in the seat. It was time to move on.
The police investigation file, released under the Official Information Act, gives details of the breakdown in relations between electorate staff.

Hardly surprising that an aloof prime minister continues to support his chosen prodigy, no matter the dubious behaviour displayed. I usually think that the only people who don't agree to talk to police are those who are likely to incriminate themselves.
This whole episode fails the sniff test, something smells very off, but again the public are treated like idiots and just fed the party line.
National take this seat for granted and people are just expected to accept whatever quality person they put up. The real stupidity is many people will just vote for him because they have to vote National. Just like the USA, we get the government we deserve.
"Time to move on" has to be the ultimate sweep it under the carpet phrase ever. How very convenient to ignore this moral blip. But it's very telling. If Barclay had nothing to hide, why not talk to the police, especially after saying he would co-operate? A bad look. If MPs won't co-operate with the police, why should anyone else?
