Resource consent has been granted for a proposal to redevelop parts of the former Roslyn Woollen Mill buildings on Kaikorai Valley Rd.

The proposal is to demolish three ‘‘bays’’ at the north end of the building to put in a new structure that will include a cafe and restaurant.

It also seeks to have a gym included at the site as well as ‘‘trade-related retail’’ and industrial uses.

More windows will be added to the existing building and repainting will be carried out.

The plan also includes earthworks to improve car parking.

The Dunedin City Council planner Jane O’Dea deemed the effects the proposal would have on the surrounding environment to be ‘‘no more than minor’’ and the consent was approved by her and council’s senior planner John Sule. REPORT: JACOB MCSWEENY/PHOTO: SUPPLIED

A great idea to re-use this eye sore. But also a reminer to the greens, retail will evaporate from George St and go to the suburbs if you persist with the mall idea.
