Business is blooming for young Dunedin entrepreneurs Bhavyapreet and Tanmeet Madan.

The twin sisters and business partners from Bayfield High School have won the Otago Young Enterprise Scheme competition and will now compete in the national final in Wellington on December 4.

Having both experienced stress daily with its subsequent detrimental effects on their mental health, Bhavyapreet and Tanmeet wanted an organic and natural way to relieve stress.

So they created Abloom Tea, a de-stress tea with ayurvedic — an ancient healing system from India — ingredients and eco-friendly compostable teabags and packaging.

The tea was infused with cardamom and cinnamon and featured passionflower, camomile and ashwagandha, and the sisters were proud it related to their Indian heritage.

Bhavyapreet is Abloom’s chief executive, communications, marketing and sales director, while Tanmeet is chief financial officer, production director and chief administration officer.

The Otago awards were held in the Otago Business School atrium, the business school being its platinum sponsor.

The programme is connected to Business South to help inspire and encourage pupils to learn from the experience and understand the steps required to be an entrepreneur.

Runner-up was EmpowerHerMind from Cromwell College.
