The new HP Photosmart ePrinter took this writer by surprise. The technology was so smart it was hard to take it all in.
HP Photosmart ePrinter
From: HP
Price: $349
Here was a printer that lets you print anything at your convenience from anywhere as long as you had a smartphone, or at least a device capable of email.
The instructions said you could send your photos or documents to a web-connected printer and pick up the pages later. The process was said to be as easy as sending an email with no software set up required.
The ePrinter is impressive. I used my Google Android phone to send emails, a small document and a picture to the printer from my work office. Also, I sent documents from my work computer and my notebook from my lounge to the office upstairs in my home.
Did I mention it was wirelessly connected to my home network?
The printer has its own email address, which seemed complicated but overseas reviews said you could change it to a more recognisable address.
To be frank, I did not mess too much with the settings. Once it worked, I just let the printer do its stuff.
Using an HP printer at home, which runs perfectly adequately for printing documents and photos, I was completely floored by the technology on display with the new ePrint services.
So it seems are overseas writers who focus exclusively on this sort of technology. The price is reasonable at $349 (RRP) but I cannot comment on the running expenses needed for such a machine. It would be ideal for a small to medium-sized business.
Clients could send and receive files easily, once they had the email address of the printer.
The printer's "intelligence" automatically sends files to the appropriate paper tray. Photos are sent to the printer's photo tray, documents and email messages are sent to the main paper trail.
