Facebook has picked Australia and Thailand to test running advertisements on the home screen of its popular app Messenger.
The ad rollout, to start in coming weeks, will see ads appear below recent conversations. However, they would not show up in a conversation without the user clicking on the ad or starting a conversation with a brand, product manager Eddie Zhang said in a blog post.
He said people had shown interest in ads and sponsored messages from Facebook's news feed, with over a billion messages sent between the app's users and businesses on Messenger each month.
