The Otago Business Case Club is aiming to build on the success of one of its teams last weekend when the Otago championship is held at the University of Otago tomorrow.
Club spokeswoman Morgan Loveridge said already this year, teams from Otago had competed in Canada and the Netherlands. Later on this year, a team would travel to Singapore to compete against teams from the world's leading business schools.
The national competition was a three-leg competition and the ultimate winner would be decided based on the overall result from each university's performance in each leg.
The first was in Auckland, the second was in Waikato and the final would be held in Queenstown and would include international teams hosted by the University of Otago.
Last weekend, Rachel Somerville, Michael Bayly, Laura Manson and Jamie Orsbourn came second behind an Auckland team. Teams from Otago, Victoria, Waikato and Auckland universities and AUT had to devise innovative solutions for a case about All Good Bananas - a company distributing fair trade bananas in New Zealand. The judging panel included All Good board members and a Milan academic.
Tomorrow, up to 15 teams of four students each would compete to be Otago champions.
Local business people, university vice-chancellor Harlene Hayne and other academic staff would be judges.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for students to both showcase their talent and build relationships with members of the Dunedin business community," Ms Loveridge said.
Some contestants would be selected for the teams to represent Otago in Queenstown and Singapore, she said.
