Greenstone Energy this morning announced it was changing the name of Shell's fuel business to Z Energy with 10 North Island sites the first to display the logo.
Shell's fuel business in New Zealand was sold to the New Zealand Superannuation Fund and New Zealand infrastructure company Infratil for $695 million last year.
Greenstone chief executive Mike Bennetts said customers told the company they wanted a name change to reflect their national identity.
"The research was overwhelming in reinforcing the desire of New Zealanders to support world class Kiwi companies, celebrate success and take on the world and win," he said.
