Scott Technology has announced a successor for chief executive John Kippenberger who steps down at the end of August.

Yesterday, the company’s chairman, Stuart McLauchlan, announced UK-based Mike Christman had been appointed to the role following a global recruitment process.

In March, it was announced Mr Kippenberger — who has led the company since late 2019 — had decided to step down at the end of May.

But following the resignation later that same week of the company’s chief financial officer Cameron Mathewson, Mr Kippenberger offered to delay his departure.

In a statement, Mr McLauchlan said Mr Christman had more than 20 years’ experience in the automated logistics and materials handling industry.

"Mike brings extensive experience and a proven track record of delivering excellence across complex global organisations," he said.

"He is a highly capable leader, and we are excited to have him join Scott to lead our business."

Mr Christman joined Scott from logistics automation company Vanderlande BV, a Netherlands-based subsidiary of Toyota Industries.

He has been global executive vice-president of the parcel segment since April 2021 and, in that role, had overseen a team of about 2000 staff and been responsible for managing annual revenues exceeding €450 million ($NZ800 million).

Before his current role, he held various leadership positions at Vanderlande, including managing director for the UK and Singapore where he led major transformations and achieved significant business milestones, including securing the largest order in Vanderlande airports’ history.

He is a chartered engineer, holds a master of sciences from the University of Glasgow and will begin his new role in October following his relocation to Auckland.
