Roastery date

Allpress Espresso's roastery and espresso bar near the University of Otago, in north Dunedin, has been rescheduled to open toward the end of the year.

Late last year, Mike Allpress said his 23-year-old privately-owned company hoped to open a roastery and espresso bar in Emily Siedeberg Pl by March.

Otago representative Paul Dawson said plans for the up to $1 million venture had taken longer to complete than envisioned and an engineer's report was still pending, but he expected to be able to make a submission for building consent in coming weeks, having already gained resource consent.

Subject to gaining building consent, Mr Dawson said "we're looking at 12 to 14 weeks [construction time] after that and hope to be open by the end of the year," he said when contacted.

At the same time, Allpress is opening an up to $1 million flagship international entry venture in London's East End, which Mr Dawson said was expected to be open by the end of this month.

Allpress annually sells about 24 tonnes of coffee beans throughout the South Island and the 10-person Dunedin operation will become the supply base for its 50 South Island customers.

Allpress employs about 36 at its Auckland premises and 36 in Sydney, supplying beans to 500 outlets in New Zealand and Australia.
