A strategic review of Silver Fern Farms' business by consultancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers will focus on ''future options''.
Chairman Eoin Garden said the company continued to be a strong supporter of industry reform and was working with PwC to carry out the review, on the back of stalled industry restructuring discussions.
Silver Fern Farms had been in discussions with other industry participants to look at possible consolidation and restructuring options.
''It is clear something needs to change and, as a farmer owned co-operative, it was incumbent on us to not only ascertain the appropriate path for our ... shareholders, but also how we can make a difference within the overall industry model,'' Mr Garden said.
As part of its ''best practice'' governance policy, the company wanted to continuously review the appropriateness of its business model.
With two financial losses in two years, it was appropriate to ''get another perspective'', he said.
PwC will report to the Silver Fern Farms' board midway through the season.
