The SFF representatives outlined new-season job opportunities available in the forthcoming killing season.
Last week, 60 Lowe staff were made redundant.
Operations at the Green Island plant ceased, largely because of increasing exports of preserved hides to China and the downturn in South Island stock numbers.
The meeting, which attracted more than 40 staff, came from an initiative of the Otago-Southland branch of the New Zealand Meatworkers Union and SFF.
SFF personnel manager Jason Little said the meeting was a success.
About 25 application forms were handed out and a further 20 requested.
Mr Little said potential jobs in the sheep and lamb processing and boning departments were outlined, both for the Finegand plant in South Otago and further afield at SFF sheds in Timaru and Ashburton.
He said while training was done on the job, other employment criteria passed on to the workers yesterday included the need for employer references and medical and drug tests.
