Postie Plus defies trend

Nationwide E retailer Postie Plus has defied the downturn to finish the three months ended April with growth in sales and margin and increased market share.

Managing director Ron Boskell said group sales were up 7.3% in the quarter and margins had improved further as the group continued rebuilding a return to profitability.

"We've achieved growth in both sales and margins during the recession and against continual discount promotions from our major competitors to give us great heart going forward.

"We remain on track to deliver a modest profit at the end of the financial year."

However, while Mr Boskell was pleased with the results to date, he warned the group faced its most important retail quarter in a difficult economic climate.

Inventory was under control, debt was reduced and expenses were meeting stringent targets, he said.

Postie Plus had bought well, streamlined its supply and delivery chain and refreshed its branding to give shoppers choices and value.

Sales in the April quarter were $25.41 million, compared with 23.7 million in the previous corresponding period (pcp).

Year-to-date sales were $75.3 million, down 1.2% on the $76.2 million in the pcp.
