Big Picture founder Phil Parker, of Cromwell, said plans were confirmed for three international franchises, although he would not say where.
Mr Parker and his wife, Cath, established the business in Cromwell more than six years ago. Since then, franchises have opened in Auckland and Hawkes Bay.
A Marlborough franchise is due to open in December, and another in Christchurch next year.
The overseas franchises would be established in the next year or so, Mr Parker said.
Cromwell's Big Picture has been on and off the real estate market for two years.
The business was advertised for sale to accommodate expansion in other areas.
Mr Parker said the business had not been actively marketed for the past year, but he hoped a buyer would emerge.
"If it's going to go, it will be in the next six months, hopefully," he said.
Mr Parker said a range of options was being explored - including moving part of the business to Queenstown.
"We've also got the possibility of partners coming in, or leasing the Cromwell business," he said.
Marketed as an adventurous wine experience, Big Picture includes aroma rooms, interactive films showcasing vineyards and wines, wine tasting, and food designed to match local wines.
The venture targets those eager to learn about New Zealand's renowned grape-growing regions.
