Opening a Dunedin office demonstrated the commitment Dimension Data had to its clients and its desire to take a key role in the city's Information and Communications Technology (ICT) community, chief executive Simon Gillespie said yesterday.

The office was officially opened yesterday by Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull.

Mr Gillespie said the decision to open an office in the city followed Dimension's recent ICT-provision contract wins with the University of Otagoand PGG Wrightson.

The company announced last month it had secured a multimillion-dollar contract with the university and would employ eight staff to support it.

''Dunedin is a vibrant, bustling economy and we're excited about investing in the area,'' Mr Gillespie said.

The office would support the growth in Dimension's business and offer better support for its Dunedin clients, he said.

The contracts with the university and PGG Wrightson were pivotal and enabled Dimension to employ eight staff here, half sourced locally.

The university chose Dimension as its preferred network services partner to improve its multi-campus local-area and wireless networks.

PGG Wrightson appointed Dimension to provide advanced unified communications services as it improved efficiency and effectiveness among its global, mobile workforce, Mr Gillespie said.
