Multimillion-dollar orders boost for Scott Technology

Scott Technology has confirmed two multimillion-dollar orders to Brazil and Australia for its appliance line and robotic meat processing machines.

Scott chief executive Chris Hopkins said in a statement the contracts were won despite a difficult trading environment, which were forewarned at the annual meeting in December.

Early last month, Scott - battling the strong New Zealand dollar for the past two years - reported an $836,000 loss for the six months to February compared to a $1.2 million profit for the same period a year earlier.

Group sales for the six-month period being reported were $8.3 million, $6 million down on the $14.3 million recorded for the corresponding period a year earlier.

"Scott has secured an order from a major appliance manufacturer in Brazil worth several million dollars.

It is expected that the manufacturing line will be completed and shipped at the end of 2008 and installed in early 2009," Mr Hopkins said.

Scott had also secured an order for its robotic meat processing machines, which is a joint venture with processor PPCS, to supply an Australian customer.
