Liquidation attempt; debt settled

Specialist bedding manufacturer Ellis Fibre has settled a debt with an offshore textile supplier, which had been seeking to liquidate the 19-year-old Dunedin company.

Pakistan's Amalgamated Textiles had filed an application seeking to have Ellis Fibre placed into liquidation, and a public notification earlier this week announced the claim would be heard in the High Court at Dunedin in August.

Ellis Fibre was incorporated in 1999, with Glenn and John Alexander as directors.

Its majority 78% shareholder is Cook Allan Gibson Trustee Company Ltd, acting as the independent trustee of a family trust.

It has 12 directors, spread across Dunedin, Wanaka and Cromwell. Its ultimate 50:50 shareholders are Andrew Anderson and David Smillie, both of Dunedin.

Director Glenn Alexander, when contacted yesterday, said the issue of the debt with the Pakistani fabric supplier ''had been resolved'', and he expected no further action.

''There was a miscommunication ... we had a disconnect.''

When asked, he said the debt was ''around'' $10,000.

Ellis' Dunedin factory in Kaikorai Valley makes duvets, underlays, pillows and pet beds, some of which include blended alpaca and lambs' wool.
