Summit Quinphos is seeking an industry standard for the presentation of how pasture performance reacts to fertilisers, after being stung for releasing misleading, ambiguous claims about a product.
Summit Quinphos and Ballance Crop and Agrosciences manager Willie Thomson was reacting to the Fertiliser Quality Council and an independent reviewer who said claims a pasture response of up to 69% were possible from using its nitrogen enhancer SustaiN, were incorrect.
But, Mr Thomson told the Otago Daily Times the reviewer had confused information and data which was distributed internally within the company, with advertising material, with the exception of one newsletter which was sent to farm consultants.
"We have never reported anything other than an up to 50% increase in nitrogen response," he said in an interview.
Mr Thomson said there was also a difference in terminology in relation to nitrogen response and testing methods between New Zealand and Europe, which could also have confused the Ireland-based reviewer.
