Charlie's and Phoenix Organic branded drinks are being trialled in 60 Hong Kong supermarkets in what chief executive Stefan Lepionka said could lead to a permanent relationship with the ParknShop chain.

Mr Lepionka said 24 of the Charlie's Group's products would be stocked in the ParknShop chain of stores.

The products will be trialled in stores in the next three to six months.

ParknShop is Hong Kong's largest food retailer, with 230 high-end stores, and is part of the A. S. Watson Group.

"ParknShop sought a meeting with us on a buying visit to New Zealand earlier in the year. We are pleased to advise they have now confirmed they will trial 24 products from across our Phoenix and Charlie's ranges, with a view to a more permanent ranging of the successful flavours."

Charlie's acquired the Phoenix Organics business in 2005.

A contract it had with Australian retailer Coles had lifted its performance in Australia, he said.

The company aimed to place its products in the premium beverage sector.

Charlie's shares rose 1c to 19c yesterday.

The shares have not been at this level since the start of 2008.

Craigs Investment Partners broker Chris Timms said the group was building on its success with Coles in Australia.

"The Hong Kong trial is reasonably significant. If the group can get traction anything can happen. Australia, Hong Kong and it's not far to China."
