Five hotel jobs lost in Christchurch

Two Christchurch hotels of 20 in the South Island caught up in the receivership of four CEA hotel management companies are to close, with the loss of five jobs.

The bar Taxi has shut already and The Grumpy Mole closes today.

Receiver Andrew Grenfell, of McGrath Nicol, said in a statement yesterday the premises were "not profitable and are unlikely to become profitable".

Four CEA companies were placed in the hands of receivers last week by the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, jeopardising 300 jobs, most of which the receivers hope will be "preserved".

The receivers have not released a list of the remaining 20 bars.

While Speight's Ale House in Wanaka is one of those affected, the other Speight's Ale House franchises around the country are not part of CEA and are not affected by the receivership.

In Christchurch, five staff were made redundant, with three transferred to other outlets.
