Mr Young, along with fellow director Dan Jex-Blake, are both seeking re-election to the Silver Fern Farms Co-operative board.
Nominations close at 5pm on December 23 and the result will be announced before the annual meeting in Dunedin on February 15.
Last week, it was announced Mr Young and Mr Jex-Blake had been appointed by Silver Fern Farms Co-operative to the board of Silver Fern Farms Ltd, following the joint venture with Shanghai Maling.
Both men were involved in the early stages of Meat Industry Excellence, which was formed in 2013 to push for reform in the red meat industry. They both stepped down to seek election to the Silver Fern Farms board that year.
In a statement, Mr Young said he was pleased with what had been achieved during his first term on the board.
At the time of his election, he had been campaigning for a merger of Silver Fern Farms and Alliance Group.
But, in the statement, he said it became clear early on that Alliance had a strategy that did not include Silver Fern Farms "unless on its terms".
"We had to secure a future for our company, and the Shanghai Maling joint venture does this. Now, we must really work hard to make sure we maximise this opportunity for our company and its shareholders," he said.
Farm-gate returns must improve and SFF’s strategy combined with a strong balance sheet offered a pathway to improve returns, he said.
