The award, which recognises excellence, is offered annually to young people under the age of 30 who are involved in agriculture or agricultural-based employment.
Brought up on a small farm in Southland, Miss Lyall said she had always had a passion for farming.
After leaving Southland Girls High School, she completed a B.ComAg at Lincoln University.
Since then, she has worked as a rural banker and is currently working for ASB, based out of Gore, and living at Raes Junction.
She is involved with the Moa Flat Young Farmers Club and was also the Otago-Southland liaison for Agrikids, attending the recent Young Farmer Contest grand final in Masterton.
After completing a panel interview, Miss Lyall was required to give a speech to more than 100 people on the topic "What Is Love?".
She delighted the crowd by starting her presentation singing two lines to the start of the Rugby World Cup song, as she wanted to do something that captured the audience attention.
That was followed by espousing the six different types of love as she saw them. Her love of agriculture featured heavily in her speech.
The judging panel comprised New Zealand Young Farmers general manager Sara Russell, RAS immediate-past president Mick Lester and city-slicker turned high country farmer Chrissie Fernyhough.
Miss Lyall was presented with an RAS gold medal, along with a ticket for flights to Adelaide and $500.
She will represent New Zealand at the 2011 Australasian Young Rural Achiever award at the Royal Adelaide Show in September.
Asked her plans, Miss Lyall said she wanted to gain the respect of her colleagues and clients and continue to be involved in the community around Gore and West Otago.
