A large piece of land on the market in Dunedin could provide 100 sections for development, the selling agent says.

Colliers Otago has listed a 12.6ha site in Walton Park Ave, Fairfield, that if subdivided, could be developed into residential sections of between 700sqm and 900 sqm.

The site, just off State Highway 1, is zoned general residential 1 under the new district plan for Dunedin.

Colliers Otago broker Matt Morton said owner Waste Management was selling the land.

He believed it was ‘‘extremely rare’’ for a large section to become available and that would see high demand from buyers.

Pressure on the city’s housing stock was ‘‘growing and growing’’ and this could definitely help that, Mr Morton said.

Prices for sections in Dunedin had grown steadily in recent years as demand for high-quality residential housing increased.

‘‘Dunedin has a new $1.5billion hospital that is set to be built shortly and the city is growing steadily, with a new cohort of students arriving and families choosing the southern lifestyle that the city offers.’’
