Two Work and Income New Zealand employment events for the 180 staff made redundant by the closure of Southern Cross Forests Products have been scheduled in coming weeks.
About 180 Otago staff have been made redundant by plant closures in Balclutha, Milton and Mosgiel since the ANZ bank placed the sawmiller in receivership in March with debts totalling more than $58 million.
Receiver KordaMentha subsequently decided to lay off southern staff and will be selling the company assets, while attempting to sell North Island interests as a going concern.
Work and Income said prospective employers had been invited to the events.
Other agencies and organisations committed to attend included tertiary education providers, recruitment agencies, the mayors of Clutha and Dunedin, the Otago Chamber of Commerce, the Otago-Southland Employers Association and Inland Revenue.
The first event is in Milton on Friday, and the second in Dunedin on June 10.
