The driver had been working for another taxi company but it stopped operating due to Covid-19 and Mr Fuller said it made sense for him to "go out on his own".
The fully electric Tesla Model 3 cost the Dunedin man $107,000 and he has created a website and company called CabShare where people can book his cab.
"It’s very sporty ... It does zero [km] to 100 [km] in four and a-half seconds, I think.
"Pretty good to drive ... It’s a very advanced car."
The idea of CabShare was to allow two different customers to book the same journey, each sharing the price, he said.
He was waiting to hear from Dunedin Airport whether he would be able to get a spot on the "front rank".
It would be a "a very long road" developing the business idea and a customer base while the country recovered from the Covid-19 crisis.
There were "not a lot of airport travellers and the ones that are coming in don’t know me because I’m not parked on the front rank".
While it was not self-driving, he hoped his Tesla would help move Dunedin towards that goal eventually.
"Down the track, when it is good enough, it’ll be one of the first self-driving cars in Dunedin to be able to do fully autonomous taxi work."
