Dunedin-founded CrestClean has gained voluntary certification from Environmental Choice New Zealand, attaining internationally recognised standards to minimise environmental impacts.

Environmental Choice New Zealand (ECNZ) is a government-owned label operated by a charitable trust, with assessments carried out by independent third parties.

Crest managing director Grant McLauchlan said the certification dovetailed with CrestClean's commitment to sustainability and waste management.

``Sustainability has been a key pillar of the company's strategy.

``We're totally committed to ensuring our services and products have minimal adverse environmental effects,'' he said.

Crest was the second of two cleaning companies to have gained the Government's green tick for their services, he said.

Founded in 1996, CrestClean has 550 franchises employing about 1650 staff and has more than 4100 customers across the country, including 350 schools.

``We've experienced a big surge in demand for commercial cleaning services, fuelled by a lift in the service sector, which has seen the company included three times on the annual Deloitte Fast 50 list of rapidly growing companies,'' Mr McLauchlan said.

While having always supported good environmental habits such as energy efficiency, waste minimisation and recycling, Mr McLauchlan wanted to ensure the chemical products used by Crest had minimal impact and that training was focused on environmentally responsible cleaning methods.
