Ross Copland is leaving his role as Ruapehu Alpine Lifts chief executive, a job he has held since leaving his job as Coronet Peak ski area manager in 2016.
During his tenure at Ruapehu he has overseen significant infrastructure developments, including the new $25million Sky Waka gondola.
Copland will take the reins ahead of a period of “much more substantial development” over the next three to five years, departing chief executive Alastair Porter says.
That’s likely to include more hotels, the much-touted $100 million gondola from Remarkables Park to The Remarkables, a conference centre, a waterfront development featuring a ferry terminal, and increased retail spaces.
Porter says Copland’s experience in developing the Sky Waka gondola will be “invaluable”.
Porter will hand over the top job to focus on strategy, planning and new large projects as executive chairman.
Porter’s also chief executive of Porter Group, RPG’s holding company.
Copland says he’s looking forward to “coming home”, and getting stuck in.
“It’s an exciting thing to be a part of.”
