Locally owned brewery Noisy Brewing Company has popped up next to Ironic cafe in Anzac Ave with a new bar and taproom.
It was granted resource consent in May to operate outside the normal business hours permitted in the area.
Noisy Brewing Company owner Chris Noye said he applied for the consent as the building housing the bar and brewery was split-zoned and the industrial zone would restrict its business to closing at 6pm.
Originally he had started the company from his home then moved into premises in Kaikorai Valley, so moving the business into the city was the next step for his three-strong team.
"It was pretty busy. We opened at 2 o’clock and closed at 9," he said.
The site itself was a newly refurbished heritage building, which a "beautiful, bright and light space with a really nice atmosphere", Mr Noye said.
In the future they would be hoping to have small acoustic acts perform on site, and to host small events and groups.
