Aurora Energy has rated second-highest for its pricing practices out of the 29 electricity distribution businesses throughout New Zealand.
The Electricity Authority released scorecards this month assessing the approach used by each company to establish annual electricity line charges and whether the methodology was clearly communicated and met price-setting principles.
The authority said most distributors made significant improvements in both pricing methodologies and strategy road maps for the challenges of the future.
However, progress for some was not occurring as quickly or comprehensively.
Wellington Electricity received the highest overall score while the scores for The Power Company and Electricity Invercargill (joint ranked third) and OtagoNet (fifth) also materially improved.
Almost all distributors had improved their overall score since 2021, except for Buller — which reduced slightly — and was bottom of the list.
Aurora Energy chief executive Richard Fletcher said the company was pleased its rating had improved since the last assessment two years ago.
"We know electricity pricing can be complex and Aurora Energy’s line charges are only one component of a consumers’ electricity bill.
"We’ve been working hard to simplify our pricing and ensure information about how our charges are set and regulated is accessible and easy to understand by all consumers."
