Angus is expanding. After opening the Angus Restaurant and Bar in St Andrew St a little over a year ago, Dunedin couple Brian and Susan Lee are adding to their Angus brand.

They opened Angusburgh, a burger bar in the former Charlotte French Bakery in George St, two months ago, and will open Angus Cafe and Desserts, in the former Farry's For Men premises, also in George St, on August 8.

Mr and Mrs Lee, who have had an extensive involvement in the restaurant trade, also own Great Taste and Savoury Japan.

There were plans for more Angus-branded businesses in Dunedin and further afield, Angus Restaurant and Bar manager Ali Plunket said.

The Angus Restaurant and Bar, which incorporates the Moon Bar on the second level, was going well.

A bakery was retained at the rear of the Angusburgh premises which produced the breads and burger buns for the businesses, including between 500 and 600 burger buns a day.

Business at the burger bar had "exploded" threefold since the university students returned to the city, Mr Plunket said.

He was excited about the impending opening of Angus Cafe and Desserts, which will have a dedicated chocolate room, with a chocolatier who has returned from training in Melbourne, and specialising in cakes.

The various businesses employed more than 100 people.
