People who have been made redundant or who are facing job insecurity are being urged to attend an Otago Careers Festival event tonight in the Clifford Skeggs Gallery.
The "I've lost my job - Now what?" event would provide encouragement and ideas to those attending, spokeswoman Victoria Bunton said.
Dunedin Mayor Peter Chin would introduce three "inspirational speakers": Mayfair Theatre manager Bruce Collier, who would speak about his own working life and the significant career changes he had had; Sandy Nicol, employment consultant and awareness trainer with the Royal NZ Foundation of the Blind, who would talk about identifying what skills you needed and making "looking for work" your job until you got another one; and Richard Joseph & Associates director Richard Joseph, who would talk about identifying aptitudes and personal features that were relevant to finding work.
The free event was being run by the Rotary Club of Dunedin as part of the festival, Ms Bunton said.
Also today, tomorrow and Monday, career consultant Jane Field would offer free guidance on career development, career decision-making and job-searching.
Tomorrow, the Dunedin Casino and the Southern Cross Hotel would hold a careers day at the Southern Cross Heritage Room from 1pm to 7pm.
