Consort turning 30

The Southern Consort of Voices celebrates its 30th anniversary with a concert at 8pm on Saturday in the Otago Girls High School hall.

Music director Daniel Kelly's programme for the recital pays tribute to past singers and conductors of the choir, especially the late Jack Speirs.

The choir will premiere two new works, one composed by Anthony Ritchie, himself a former member of the Southern Consort.

Commissioned by the consort, the short work is a setting of "Piano Practice", a poem by Lauris Edmond.

The second new work is by choir member Michael Winikoff.
