The return of the annual "Almost an Island" exhibition, which has showcased Otago Peninsula and its artists for the past 20 years, has been greeted with enthusiasm by the local arts community.

OpenArts Inc president and exhibition organiser Roger Weston said the showcase, which will run from today until April 21 at Macandrew Bay Community Hall, involved 140 exhibits by 42 artists.

Works include a broad range of styles and mediums, from paintings and photography to jewellery and ceramics, as well as a woodturning selection.

"The ‘Almost an Island’ exhibition has been a popular event among local artists and the community for many years now," Weston said.

"As a sale exhibition, it is a great opportunity for the artists to connect directly with the public and have a chance to talk one-on-one about their art."

Well-known local artists are among those exhibiting, including Anne Baldock, Jenny Longstaff, Manu Berry, Pauline Bellamy, Kylie Matheson, and Weston himself.

The Otago Peninsula Artists group (OpenArts Inc) was grateful for the ongoing support of local businesses and organisations for the exhibition and other arts initiatives on the peninsula, Weston said.
