New Zealand's sparkling medal hauls at the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics are reflected in the New Year Honours announced today.

Leading Maori academic, business educator and treaty negotiator Prof Ngatata Love says his New Year award honours the work of many people besides himself.

There was a sense of pride but certainly no prejudice when Emeritus Prof Jocelyn Harris learned she had been awarded a CNZM for services to education in the New Year Honours list.
