Police are seeking witnesses to a crash near Winton in Southland yesterday that left six people seriously injured.
The two-car crash occurred about 5.40pm at Thomsons Crossing on the Winton-Lorneville highway (State Highway 6), near Gap Rd East.
A Hato Hone St John spokesman said three people were flown by helicopter to Dunedin Hospital — two with critical injuries and one with serious injuries.
Another three people with serious injuries were taken by ambulance to Southland Hospital.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokeswoman said two crews were sent from Winton and one from Kingswell to help at the scene. She was aware of one person having to be freed from a vehicle.
Police this morning said the serious crash unit had attended, and police were seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the crash.
