Santa needed to receive a last-minute change of address for Tapanui’s Maz Leng, 12, after he developed an infection in his leg and had an unexpected trip by ambulance to Southland Hospital earlier this week.

He was among five children in hospital on Christmas morning as Santa did his gift rounds.

While the four other children were able to be temporarily discharged to spend celebrations with their families, Maz was required to stay in hospital under the watchful eye of ward staff.

Maz was disappointed not to be home yesterday as he knew he had a new 125cc motorbike waiting to take him on some adventures.

Two rounds of Santa’s Christmas gifts helped soften the disappointment - especially the remote-control helicopter and battery-operated digger.
