Thousands of people attended the Otago Taieri A&P Show on a sunny day on Saturday.

Society president Brian Thomson, of Dunedin, said the crowd numbers at the showgrounds in Mosgiel were "magnificent".

He had not been told the final crowd tally but gate takings were up a "significant" $10,000 on the 2021 show.

Due to Covid restrictions, last year the show committee decided to exclude spectators and only hold horse events, the Paddock to Plate competition and wool judging.

One of the many highlights of the show this year was a large crowd giving Fred Jones, of Dunedin, a standing ovation after he finished shearing a sheep in a demonstration.

The other show events included dog trialling, horse jumping, a terrier race, wood chopping, sheep and cattle judging and highland dancing.
