Heifer calf fetches $A63K

A 2-week-old dairy heifer calf with no name fetched the highest price at a sale in North Otago.

The Bayne family held the Busybrook Holsteins sale on their dairy farm in Duntroon last month.

Holstein Friesian NZ field officer Amelia Griffin said the heifer sold for the top price of $A63,000 ($NZ69,100) to Australian breeder Darren Crawford.

The heifer was a daughter of Oakfield Solom Footloose EX97, the supreme champion at 2022 World Dairy Expo, which was sired by Delta Lambda.

The average sale price of the 137 lots at Busybrook was an "incredible" $9246, she said.
