Dairy farmers Paul and Isabel Murphy had a full clearance at their Shorthorn herd dispersal sale near Invercargill last week.

The Murphy family including Paul’s father David Murphy, 83, milk the most Shorthorn cows in Southland.

Mr Murphy said all of the dairy cattle, mostly pure Shorthorns, sold on-farm in Kennington.

The average price for the 126 cows was $2344 and the 29 calves was $925.

The top price was $6900 for 7-year-old cow Grosvenor Jedi Natie to a buyer in Edendale.

More than 70 of the cows were bought by a farmer in Rangiora.

Thirty cows went to Mossburn and 13 cows went to Waikato.

About 60 people registered to bid.

"The sale went really well. There was a lot of people there, so it was good."
