House blaze near Wānaka controlled

A well-involved house fire near Wānaka has been brought under control.

Crews from Luggate, Wānaka, Tarras, Lake Hāwea and a command unit from Alexandra were initially called to the to the fire halfway between Luggate and Wānaka late this afternoon. 

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesman said the blaze was reported about 4.25pm. 

"When the crews have been going there they can see quite a lot of smoke, so we've responded further resources straight away, just as a precaution," he said.

At 5.30pm, he said the fire had been bought under control and the command unit was turned back before it reached the scene.

"Our fire crews have got the fire under control and we've release some of the fire trucks from the scene."

A fire investigator had been notified and two crews remained at the scene to make sure the blaze was fully extinguished, he said.
