The raucous hum of Ferraris filled Invercargill’s roads this weekend when owners from across the country descended on the city.
The Ferrari Owners’ Club of New Zealand members and their beloved cars took part in its annual meeting.
The group met in Blenheim at the beginning of last week and travelled down the West Coast, arriving in Invercargill on Friday where they took part in a series of events.
It included a group picture at the recently reopened Anderson House, a drive at Teretonga Park Raceway and a display for the public at Queens Park.
South Island Ferrari Owners’ Club of New Zealand chairman Peter Blomfield said the event was a success.
"We just have about 45 cars here and a range from the very latest - the million-dollar Ferrari [2022 SF90] - to some classic from the last century."
"You don’t buy just for the car ... they are beautiful cars, really nice on the roads.
"I grew up in Invercargill and I can remember seeing Ferraris racing at Teretonga when I was very, very small. This gave me the wish to own one."
It took about 30 years to be able to save enough to buy one, but it was an indescribable feeling when he purchased his 1994 348 Spider model, he said.
"The most fantastic feeling was when I came back to Invercargill six or seven years ago and 50 years to the day virtually [from seeing Ferrari racing as a child] and I drove my own Ferrari around Teretonga.
"It was on my 60th birthday, so I was absolutely rapt with that."
Auckland region club chairman Jonathan Rankin said the members were especially impressed with the great roads in the South Island.
"We drove about 2000km to get here and it was a fantastic journey."
