The Sixth Annual Battle for the Queenstown Cup was "the best one yet".
The annual ice hockey competition started on Wednesday and involved 18 teams competing for the cup in A and B grades.
"I say it every year, but this year really was the best one yet," the cup’s organiser, Colin McIntosh, said.
"Seeing people come down from all different backgrounds and get involved is great. It’s getting bigger each year."
Yesterday, a heated A grade final saw the Whakatipu Giants win the Queenstown Cup.
The Giants were losing to the Enigma until the last 30 seconds of the game, when they managed to level the scores at four apiece.
This resulted in an intense extra time period, where the Giants scored to take the win.
The Wellington Seals won the B grade with a 4-0 win over the Queenstown Kiwis.
"The level of ice hockey played was great, with 37 out of the 45 games won within one or two goals," Mr McIntosh said.
Teams were allowed a maximum of five national league players from the past two seasons, which meant big names were playing, including Kelleye Nelson, the only female playing in the A grade.
Mr McIntosh said the B grade had up to 20 women playing.
