To date, $9m is the most anyone’s paid for a Millbrook pad, however property and development director Ben O’Malley says there are others that could also fetch that sort of coin, but they’ve yet to go to market.
The 810sqm Millvista Lane home, on a 4180sqm section overlooking Lake Hayes, with mountain views all around, features schist stone pavilions, slate, steel and aged larch.
"It’s a stunning site, a beautiful, bespoke home. A lot of passion and effort has gone into designing and building it," O’Malley says.
Designed by Christchurch’s Haden Emslie Architecture, it was built by local-based AJ Saville Builder, for whom it won the Registered Master Builders’ supreme home of the year in 2018.
A novelty is front doors imported from the Indian state of Rajasthan.
O’Malley says Millbrook’s design review board allowed them as the home’s in such a discreet location — "it’s quite a unique site in sort of a corner of the resort".
In addition to four spacious, ensuited bedrooms, with the master suite occupying an individual pavilion, other features include a self-contained New York-style loft, multiple living areas including a teppan room with its own fire and lounge area, an in-ground pool and a heated arbour.
It’s believed the owners are seeking to downsize.
"We’ve had some good nibbles on it," O’Malley says.
