Slow drivers as well as speeding ones will be targeted by police on southern roads this Easter.
"Inconsiderate driving impeding traffic flow" is one of the driving behaviours, alongside the usual drink-driving and speeding, that will be the focus of police in Otago and Southland during the Easter break.
While traffic build-up could sometimes be frustrating, southern district road policing manager Inspector Andrew Burns urged all Easter motorists to remain courteous and patient.
"It is important that drivers remain alert to what is occurring around them.
"If there is traffic starting to build up behind you, there is no need to speed up; look for somewhere safe, indicate to the left and slow down to allow those behind to pass."
There would be a heavy police presence on roads across the region this Easter, especially around Central Otago where police expected roads to be extra busy because of the Warbirds over Wanaka event, he said.
The official holiday period is from 4pm today until 6am next Tuesday.
