Swimmers will remain shut out of the ageing Wanaka Community Pool for at least two weeks as council contractors wait for new parts after a misdiagnosed "anticipated quick maintenance job".
The pool was closed on Friday so a circulation pump motor could be fixed, but an ordered replacement does not fit existing components at the 18-year-old facility.
Queenstown Lakes District Council community services general manager Paul Wilson said the "discovery of a bigger problem than expected" had delayed the reopening of the pool.
The main pump was found to be "riddled with rust" and while a new pump and motor had been ordered, they would not arrive for installation before April 12, he said.
The longer closure could not be avoided, Mr Wilson said.
It was "unfortunate" the pump motor had not lasted until a scheduled winter closing from July 12 for routine maintenance work to be carried out, he said.
