Two police officers suffered fractures and bruising after being attacked by five men, one armed with a pool cue, in the Waikato town of Ngaruawahia early today.
The officers had stopped their patrol car to investigate disorder in Ellery Street when they were set upon.
"The police officers were treated at Waikato Hospital for fractures and bruising before being discharged," said a police spokeswoman.
The patrol was also damaged.
She appealed for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
