All should be revealed at the end of April - and the bridge will still be red - New Zealand Transport Authority Central Otago area manager John Jarvis assured yesterday.
The one-lane bridge is being repainted, hence the scaffolding and covering to protect the workers. Some concrete spall repairs also have to be done.
NZTA had initially hoped contractor Fulton Hogan could have finished the bridge works by next weekend, in time for the Warbirds Over Wanaka Airshow.
"It is not going to be finished before Easter. It is a bit disappointing but there's been some contractual issues about the job on site. Progress has been a bit slower than hoped," Mr Jarvis said.
The delays were not attributable to weather, which had been fine. Sandblasting had taken a little longer than expected. There would be private discussions with the contractor, Mr Jarvis said.
A set of traffic lights has caused some very minor delays for motorists but the contractors had managed the traffic well and no complaints had arisen, Mr Jarvis said.
Although the bridge would not be finished by Easter, no traffic disruptions were expected during the holiday period, he said.
A budget of $290,000 has been set aside for the work.
