Start to roadworks

Several roads near the new Wanaka Primary School are undergoing changes to improve traffic safety, which may cause motoring delays over the next two months.

A letter from the Queenstown Lakes District Council to property owners near the school construction site says the roads will remain open and access to private driveways will be maintained, but some restrictions may be necessary.

Construction started on a roundabout at the intersection of Kings Dr and Ironside Dr last week, which is a requirement of the designation for the new school.

The roundabout should be completed by mid-April.

Other road changes are programmed for Totara Tce, Aubrey Rd and Kings Dr during April and May.

They are:

• Two speed tables (road humps) and a raised pedestrian crossing on Totara Tce.

• A median island with pedestrian crossing facility at the intersection of Kings Dr and Aubrey Rd.

• New line markings on Aubrey Rd, including a centre line and drop-off parking bays along the front of Kelly's Flat reserve.

• Two new pedestrian crossings on Aubrey Rd. One is to be built near Anderson Rd, the other includes built-out kerbs and is near Holy Family School.

All work has been approved by the Wanaka Community Board and the Queenstown Lakes District Council.

Copies of plans can be obtained from the council.

Wanaka Primary School is scheduled to open in September.
