The driver of a car travelling along Lower Shotover Rd in Queenstown was lucky to escape without injury after hitting a fallen tree branch early yesterday.
A Queenstown police spokeswoman said the vehicle was travelling along the road at 6.45am, when the driver came around a "dark corner" to find a fallen tree branch across both lanes.
The car slid on the wet surface and was unable to stop in time, mounting the fallen branch.
There was no damage reported to the car and no injuries to the driver, she said.
• A 40-year-old Wanaka man may face driving charges after he crashed his car while travelling on the Crown Range Road on Sunday evening.
Constable Greg Nolet, of Wanaka, said speed was a focus of the accident inquiry.
The man was driving to Wanaka when his 4WD came came through a section of roadworks, where a temporary speed limit of 30kmh was in place, Const Nolet said.
He lost control and crashed down a 3m bank.
The driver was not injured in the crash, he said.
