Michelle Greig (21), Freeskier
Lives: Queenstown (born Invercargill).
Event: Skier-cross is being held at the Winter Olympics for the first time.
Skiers race down a course negotiating obstacles and jumps, a bit like motocross or BMX.
Four people race on the course at the same time.
Background: The former alpine skier first represented New Zealand in 2004 and narrowly missed selection for the 2006 Games in Turin, Italy.
She is a former national champion in giant slalom and super G and switched to skier-cross four years ago.
Greig did not get a chance to show her talents at the New Zealand Winter Games because the conditions forced a cancellation.
Chances: Greig is ranked in the world's top 30 and has had five top-20 results at World Cup level since March last year.
She is in a field of 35 female skier-cross racers at the Olympics and her aim is to finish in the top 10.
Race day: February 23, Vancouver.
