Dunedin's Thieves Alley market will be even bigger than usual this year, with the ever-popular event swelling from 250 to 300 stalls.

Organiser Hazel Murtagh said this week stalls were sold out for today's event, and by both "cramming them in like sardines", and not having the annual Timebuster race on at the same time, more stalls were possible both in and around Bath St.

The event starts at 10am, but Ms Murtagh said she expected some stall holders would start earlier, to allow sales to passengers of the cruise ship Diamond Princess.

This year's event would feature a circus act, and a crane to allow aerial performance in Princes St.

She promised the 26th version of the event would be a "street market with full colour and vibrancy".
